Poppy Seed Tea Bread

(Makes 2 loaves)

This recipe comes from Patricia Burgher via Karen Hoover. She made it for Pod Fiesta 3, and it was delicious!

Ingredients

Bread

  • 3 c flour
  • 2 1/2 c sugar
  • 1/2t salt
  • 1 1/2t baking powder
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/2c milk
  • 1c plus 2T vegetable oil
  • 2T dry poppy seeds
  • 1 1/2t vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2t almond extract
  • 1 1/2t butter flavoring (opt)

Glaze

  • 1/4c orange juice
  • 3/4c sugar
  • 1/2t vanilla extract
  • 1/2t almond extract
  • 1/2t vegetable oil

Directions

Bread

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In large mixing bowl blend all bread ingredients. Mix well. Pour into 2 greased and floured bread pans and bake about 60 minutes or until top of bread turns golden and it passes the toothpick test for doneness.


Cool 10 minutes in pan.

Glaze

Heat all ingredients until sugar melts. Prick bread with fork and cover with warm glaze. Let soak into bread. Enjoy!
